IMAT 2026 Is Over: Next Steps for English-Taught Medicine and IMAT 2027

IMAT, the entrance test for English-taught Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine at Italian public universities, took place on 29 September 2026 under Ministerial Decree 1005 of 6 August 2026 (DM 1005/2026).

English-taught vs Italian-taught medicine

• English-taught programmes: admission is still based on a test (IMAT) and a national ranking. Students admitted through IMAT enrol directly.
• Italian-taught programmes: the entrance test has been replaced by the "semestre filtro" (filter semester). For 2026/2027 its exams take place on 10 December 2026 and 11 January 2027.

Preparing for IMAT 2027

• The IMAT 2027 date, places and rules have not been announced yet. We will publish them here once MUR releases the 2027/2028 decree.
• The test is entirely in English. Starting early on biology, chemistry, physics-maths and logic gives you an advantage.
• Applicants who need a visa must also complete their Universitaly pre-enrolment within the university's deadlines.
