Italian Student Visa: Proof of Funds Rises to €10,179.85 per Year
The Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) has raised the annual means of subsistence required for a student visa from €6,947.33 to €10,179.85. The new amount applies to the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 academic years.
Under the Italian Ministry of University and Research's (MUR) new circular for international students, the annual means of subsistence you must show for a student visa is now €10,179.85. In the previous cycle it was €6,947.33.
What has changed?
- Amount: at least €10,179.85 per academic year.
- Validity: the rules now cover two years, both 2026/2027 and 2027/2028.
- Source of funds: must be lawful and traceable, preferably in the student's name; funds from relatives up to the fourth degree are also accepted.
- Language: at least B2 for Italian- or English-taught programmes and B1 for Foundation courses.
Deadlines
- Visa applications for 2026/2027 bachelor's and master's programmes: 30 November 2026.
- Visa applications for 2027/2028: 31 October 2027.
- You can complete the visa application only after the university approves your Universitaly pre-enrolment. Apply at the Italian embassy or consulate in your country of residence.
This amount covers subsistence only; plan rent, tuition and flights separately. Consulates examine bank statements in detail.
