Italian University Application Calendar for 2027/2028
The rules for international students now cover two years. For 2027/2028 the visa application deadline is 31 October 2027, and enrolment on Universitaly must be completed by 31 January 2028.
Under MUR's new circular, the rules on entry, enrolment and recognition of qualifications for international students now apply to two academic years (2026/2027 and 2027/2028). If you plan to start in September 2027, the rules are already known.
Key dates
- University applications: each university sets its own deadlines; many programmes fill up early, so apply in the winter and spring.
- Universitaly pre-enrolment: after admission, submit your pre-enrolment on the Universitaly portal; the university must approve it before your visa application.
- Visa application deadline (2027/2028): 31 October 2027. Universities may set earlier deadlines.
- Completing enrolment on Universitaly: by 31 January 2028. Students who miss this date have their visa revoked.
- Still applying for 2026/2027: visa deadline 30 November 2026; enrolment deadline 31 January 2027.
Entrance exams
- CEnT-S (CISIA): used by many English-taught engineering, economics and science programmes. The last 2026/2027 session was on 15 October 2026; we will publish the 2027/2028 calendar once CISIA releases it. Visa applicants should take the earliest sessions to receive results in time.
- IMAT: for English-taught medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine. The 2027 date has not been announced yet.
- Home-country entrance exam: if your country requires a national university entrance exam, you must have passed it.
Language and financial requirements
- At least B2 for English- or Italian-taught programmes.
- €10,179.85 per year in proof of funds for the visa.
